Born in Colorado to a family of outdoor sport enthusiasts, Jason began skiing at the age of three on the slopes of Crested Butte where his father served as a ski patrol leader. Skiing, motocross, camping, backpacking, fishing, ice hockey, rafting and climbing Colorado’s fourteeners were all commonplace activities in the Burns household. On any given day, you'll still find Jason skiing, hiking, surfing, snorkeling or biking in the mountains surrounding Aspen or in the waters off Kauai.
At an early age, Jason also developed a fascination with parties and demonstrated a flair for entertaining and hospitality. He would work diligently to create dripping chianti bottle candles to accompany otherwise unremarkable school-night spaghetti dinners, rise early to surprise his family with breakfasts in bed, fret over the smallest details to set the perfect table (an obsession to this day) and delighted in entertaining friends and family with lavish, multi-course dinner parties direct from the pages of the latest issues of Gourmet and Bon Appétit. Jason remains passionate about making life’s special moments beautiful and meaningful to those around him.
In 2003, long-time Aspen local, ‘D’enise ‘L’atousek opened ‘DL’ Event Planning, which quickly became the premier event planning company in Aspen under her sharp skills and leadership. In preparation for the birth of her second daughter, Denise made the decision to devote her full-time energies to raising her daughters. In 2008, she sold the business to Jason, who was then serving as her Senior Director of Design and Event Planning.
Prior to joining Denise at DL Event Planning, Jason cultivated his skills as a wedding and special events planning expert on the management teams at some of the country’s most prestigious hotels, including The Broadmoor, The St. Regis Aspen, Hotel Jerome and the Four Seasons Atlanta. Jason has also worked frequently as a consultant and implemented wedding and special event programs at a number of resorts and hotels, including a recent commission by the Viceroy to launch their top-of-the-line wedding program. Since coordinating his first wedding in 2001, Jason has coordinated well over 600 weddings and countless corporate and non-profit events.
Since acquiring full ownership of DL Event Planning (and subsequently changing the name to "Burns & Madsen"), Jason has been able to devote his full time and energies to doing what he loves best – making life’s special moments beautiful and meaningful for his clientele. This, combined with his very calming nature and unparalleled enthusiasm, has made him a sought-after event expert. Jason splits his time between Aspen and Kauai.
